491   Flavius Anastasius becomes Emperor of the Byzantine Empire, as Anastasius I.

1079   Bishop Stanislaus of Krakow is executed by order of King Boleslaw II "the Generous/the Bold/the Cruel" of Poland.

1241   Batu Khan (Mongol ruler/Khan/King of Kings/Tsar of the Jochid Ulus) defeats King Bela IV of Hungary + Croatia at the Battle of Muhi.

1689   William III & Mary II are crowned joint sovereigns of England, Scotland + Ireland.


1814   The Treaty of Fontainebleau ends the War of the Sixth Coalition against Emperor Napoleon I Bonaparte of the French, and forces him to abdicate unconditionally for the first time.


1921   Emir Abdullah bin al-Hussein of Transjordan (later King of Jordan as Abdullah I, 1946-1951) establishes the first centralised government in the newly created British protectorate of Transjordan.


1951   The Stone of Scone, the stone upon which the monarchs of Scotland (and later the monarchs of England, Great Britain & the United Kingdom) were traditionally crowned, is found on the site of the altar of Arbroath Abbey (in Arbroath, Scotland, UK).  It had been taken by Scottish nationalist students on Dec. 25, 1950 from its place in Westminster Abbey (in London, England, UK).


1987   The London Agreement is secretly signed between Israeli Foreign Affairs Minister Shimon Peres and King Hussein of Jordan.
