Feb.13 Denmark: The Danish Royal Court announces that Pr.Consort Henrik passed away peacefully in his sleep on Feb. 13 with Q.Margrethe II, CP Frederik & Pr.Joachim by his side @ Fredensborg Palace. He was 83. He was born on June 11, 1934 in the commune of Talence, France, as Henri Marie Jean Andre de Laborde de Monpezat as the 2nd of 9 children born to Count Andre de Laborde de Monpezat & Renee Doursenot. Until the age of 5, he & his family lived in French Indochina (Vietnam) as his father worked for the family’s industrial companies in the region. In 1939 they returned to France & he was educated at home. He attended a Jesuit boarding school in Bordeaux in 1947. His secondary education was at the Cahors Gymnasium, in France, & at the French Gymnasium, in Hanoi, Vietnam. From 1952-1957 he studied law + politics @ the Sorbonne University, France, & the Chinese + Vietnamese languages @ the Ecole Nationale des Langues Orientales. At age 24 he lived in Hong Kong, China, for a year, then studied further in Saigon, Vietnam. He served in the French military between 1959-1962, serving in Algeria during the Algerian War. Afterward he got a job with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, serving 1st in the Asian Department & then moving to London, England, UK, to work as a secretary under the French Ambassador from 1963-1967. During this time he met the future Q.Margrethe II of Denmark in 1965. They conducted a year-long secret courtship & their engagement was announced in October 1966. They married on June 10, 1967 @ the Holmens Krik, Copenhagen. He changed his name to the Danish ‘Henrik’ & became a member of the Danish Lutheran Evangelical Church before the wedding. They had 2 sons: CP Frederik (1968) & Pr.Joachim (1969).
