He had 1 older brother, Pr.Wilhelm of Schaumburg-Lippe (b. 1939), & 2 younger siblings: Pss Marie-Louise of Schaumburg-Lippe (b.1945) & Pr.Harald of Schaumburg-Lippe (b.1948). On Sep. 10, 1977 he married Anne-Lise Johansen (b. Aug.8, 1946 in Copenhagen, Denmark; d.July 27, 1994 @ Dronningmole). They had 1 daughter: Pss Eleonore of Schaumburg-Lippe (b.1978). They divorced in 1991, and Anne-Lise died 3 years later. In 2001 he married Karin Grundmann, and they divorced in 2002. Later in 2002 he married Ruth Schneidewind, and it was dissolved in 2003. In 2008 he married Gertraud Antonia Wagner-Schoppl. He was the paternal grandson of Prince Friedrich of Schaumburg-Lippe (1868-1945) & Princess Louise of Denmark (1875-1906). He was the maternal grandson of Prince Harald of Denmark (1876-1949) & Princess Helena of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg (1881-1962).

He was born on June 8, 1939 @ Mandelieu, France, as 1 of the 12 children (2nd son) of Prince Pedro Henrique of Orleans-Braganza (1909-1981) & Princess Maria Elisabeth of Orleans-Braganza, Princess of Bavaria (1914-2011), who married in 1937. He was baptized @ the Chapel of Mas-Saint-Louis [home of his paternal grandmother, Dowager Princess Imperial Maria Pia of Brazil, Princess of the Two Sicilies (1878-1973)], his godfather was his great-uncle, Prince Ranieri of the Two Sicilies, Duke of Castro (1893-1973). He was fluent in Portuguese, French, German & English. He began his studies @ the Colegio Santo Inacio, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Then he studied @ the Cristo Rei College (run by German priests) & completed his secondary education in 1957. He entered the Naval School + the Submarine School. He did his postgraduate studies in Economics @ the Fundacao Getulio Vargas, & took specialization courses @ Cambridge University, England, UK. On May 8, 1967 he married Ana Maria de Cerqueira Cesar e Moraes de Barros (b.1945) @ Sao Paulo, Brazil. They had 2 children: Pr.Luiz Filipe of Orleans-Braganza (b. 1969) & Pss Anna Luiza of Orleans-Braganza (b.1971). They divorced on Mar.22, 1976. On Mar. 26, 1976 he married Mercedes Williamsens Neves da Rocha (b.1955) in a civil ceremony @ Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. They had 4 children: Pr.Eudes of Orleans-Braganza (b.1977), twins Pss Maria Antonia of Orleans-Braganza (b.1979) + Pss Maria Francisca of Orleans-Braganza (b.1979), & Pr.Guy of Orleans-Braganza (b.1985).
